New Clinic to Open in Spokane

5/26/2010

The Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic signed an agreement on May 21 to operate a medical and dental clinic at the Northeast Community Center in Spokane.

The two-story clinic is currently under construction at the community center, which is located at 4001 North Cook Street.

The medical clinic will occupy the first floor and have 15 exam rooms. The upper floor will have a dental clinic with 15 chairs. Spokane Falls Family Clinic, which is affiliated with the Farm Workers Clinic, will provide medical services at both the new site and its present location at 120 West Mission Ave. Meanwhile, all dental services at Spokane Falls Family Clinic will be transferred to the Northeast Community Center location.

Along with two dentists and support staff now working at the West Mission clinic, there will also be dentists completing their residencies in advanced general dentistry.

A significant and unique program at the clinic involves dentists practicing throughout the Spokane area. The Spokane District Dental Society Foundation will coordinate participation by dentists who will volunteer their time at the clinic. This partnership involving full-time dentists at the clinic, volunteer dentists, and residents is considered a truly innovative model for providing care for populations that have been traditionally underserved.

The volunteer portion of the clinic has been named the IDEA Clinic, a name that reflects the inventive concepts that created it.

The medical area is expected to open in January 2011, with the dental area opening a couple of months later.
