Enjoy living in Washington State with its wide-open spaces, clean air, mountains, rivers, and lakes. The Yakima Valley and Yakima Columbia River Valley are in sunny Central Washington. These are active agricultural areas, producing some of the world’s finest fruit, vegetables, hops, and wine grapes. The areas also offer outstanding recreational activities, including skiing, boating, hiking, and fishing.

About Yakima

Yakima, a diverse city of about 100,000, is situated in a semi-arid, highly agricultural valley of central Washington. The area has a vibrant arts community, year-round outdoor recreation, and is within an easy drive of several major cities. A few of the local highlights are:

  • Four golf courses.
  • A seasonal farmers market.
  • Two public swimming pools.
  • Yakima Symphony Orchestra.
  • Yakima Valley Museum and Historical Association.
  • Abundant wineries, craft breweries, and distilleries.
  • Downhill and cross-country skiing at White Pass Ski Area, just 30 miles outside of town.
  • Rafting on the Tieton and Yakima rivers.
  • Hiking, climbing, and sightseeing at nearby Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Hood.
  • Access to lakes, rivers, and camping facilities for fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, rock climbing, and ORV activities.
  • Pippins semipro baseball at Yakima County Stadium.

About Toppenish

Toppenish is a small town in the center of primarily agriculture land on the Yakama Indian Reservation. The town is known for its unique murals, painted on buildings throughout the town, and attracting a large number of tourists each year.

Some of the highlights of the Toppenish area include:

  • Diverse and unique restaurants featuring authentic Mexican meals.
  • Easy access to wineries that feature guided tours and tastings.
  • Fresh and local seasonal vegetables and fruits.
  • Nearby shopping and entertainment – the Tri-Cities area is about an hour away, and Seattle and Portland are both within three hours.
  • A range of outdoor recreation, including fishing and hunting. Spectacular camping, hiking, and skiing is available at White Pass Recreational Area, which is just an hour and a half away.
  • Some of the best windsurfing in the world is within two hours, along the Columbia River in Oregon’s The Dalles-Hood River area.
