Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic Pediatric Dental Residents chosen for Washington State Academy of Pediatric Dentists Grant
Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic (YVFWC) dental residents have been awarded the Washington State Academy of Pediatric Dentists Foundation (WSAPDF) resident research grants.
This grant is open to all pediatric dental residents in Washington State. The recipients are chosen based on which proposed projects align with the mission of the foundation. Research submissions were selected based on “research that supports and increases access to care for underserved children.” The two YVFWC residents were the only two grant recipients this year.
The grant recipients, Dr. Aarika D. Anderson Elter and Dr. Ara Greer, both residents of the NYU Langone Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry, Yakima Pediatric Dental Residency, will each be given $500 towards their research projects.
Dr. Elter’s research project is titled: “Family Centered Care at an Interdisciplinary Center for Children with Special Needs: Perceptions of Spanish and English Speaking Families.”
Dr. Greer is researching “Program Survey of General Practitioners: Transition of Children with Special Health Care Needs to Adult Dental Home.”
“The Washington State Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Foundation (WSAPDF) does wonderful work to improve access to dental care for underserved children. The residents have worked very hard on their research projects and we are honored that they were selected for the grants. It reflects the strong commitment to ensuring all children have access to dental care and optimal oral health that WSAPDF, YVFWC, and NYU Langone all share," Dental Residency Director Dr. Jessica De Bord said.
NYU Langone is the educational sponsor of postdoctoral pediatric dental residency training programs at YVFWC, which is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. NYU Langone partners with two YVFWC pediatric dental sites in Yakima, at Children’s Village and ViewCrest Pediatric Dentistry at Lincoln Avenue Medical-Dental Center.
