First Steps

Resources for mom and baby in Washington.

First Steps supports pregnant women and newborn babies in Washington by showing you how to use medical, social, educational, and other local resources that can help during your pregnancy.

Our approach to the First Steps

You face a lot of questions and decisions when you’re pregnant. Help is out there, but you have to know where to look. Our First Steps program, run by Community Health Services, is there for you. We guide you through all the community resources that are available to you, and we show you how to use them. You can start getting help from the First Steps Program anytime during your pregnancy and for 60 days after your baby is born. The sooner you get started with First Steps, the better. This service can help pregnant women who receive Medicaid and families with babies up to 12 months old.
