Obstetricians specialize in pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. They are commonly referred to as OBs and are sometimes confused with Gynecologists. Obstetricians differ from Gynecologists in that they focus on care surrounding pregnancy. Gynecologists focus on wider spectrum of women’s health.
Their expertise surrounds things like menstruation, breast exams, pap smears, pelvic exams, and other non-pregnancy issues. Providers with expertise in both fields are known as OB/GYNs.
