The prenatal care that you receive during your pregnancy is essential to maintaining both your health and your baby’s health.

Your first visit will include a comprehensive review of your medical and family history, along with a physical exam. Subsequent visits may include checkups on your weight, fetal growth, blood pressure, urine samples, fetal heart rate, ultrasounds, and other lab tests. Every visit includes time to discuss your progress, your child’s development, and your pregnancy options as they become available.

Typical pregnancies will see an OB once a month through the first and second trimester, with visits increasing in frequency throughout the third trimester.

Your first ultrasound will typically be in the first trimester, this ultrasound is used to confirm due dates.  Typically you will have a second ultrasound between 18 and 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Fruits, vegetables, protein, breads, cereals, and select dairy products are recommended. Unpasteurized cheeses and raw fish should be avoided. Your obstetrician may make further dietary recommendations throughout your pregnancy.

Hormonal changes are often the cause of morning sickness during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. It is recommended that you stay hydrated and eat small meals frequently throughout the day to help ease any nausea. If persistent vomiting occurs, please contact your clinic.

Contractions that are three to five minutes apart for more than one hour for your first child or five minutes apart if you’ve had children before. Some women experience a “water break” but this is not always a common occurrence.
