Fruits and veggies tasting event offered for children March 29, 31

Registered Dietitians at Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic (YVFWC) are inviting patients and their families to celebrate National Nutrition Month® (NNM) during the month of March.

Registered Dietitians will host a free “Taste the Rainbow” event in Toppenish on March 29 and 31. The event will take place at the Toppenish Medical-Dental Clinic Teaching Kitchen, at 514 West First Avenue in Toppenish.

“The goal of the event is to introduce children to new fruits and vegetables they may have not tried before,” Dietitian Lissette Llamas said.

The event will be held twice, in English and Spanish. On Wednesday, March 29, from 4 to 5 p.m. the event will be held in English and the Spanish event is scheduled for Friday, March 31, from 4 to 5 p.m.

“Taste the Rainbow of Fruits and Veggies” is the theme of the event and YVFWC patients 4-8 years old and their siblings are invited to taste less common fruits and vegetables as well as all-time favorites.

Children in attendance will learn fun facts about eating a variety of fruits and vegetables, and participate in making a yogurt dip in the newly opened Teaching Kitchen at the Toppenish Medical-Dental Clinic. There will also be goodies and prizes for participants to take home.

Space for the event is limited, so participants are being asked to register for the event by calling the clinic at (509) 865-5600.
