Discover the Power of Nutrition During National Nutrition Month

Each March, National Nutrition Month encourages us to reflect on the role food plays in our health, culture, and everyday lives. This month‑long campaign promotes informed food choices, sustainable eating habits, and a more intentional approach to wellness.
National Nutrition Month focuses on different aspects of nutrition each week to help people build healthier routines one step at a time:
- Week 1 encourages the choice of healthy foods with a variety of nutrients.
- Week 2 centers on connecting with experts, such as registered dietitian nutritionists, who can offer personalized nutrition guidance.
- Week 3 focuses on budget by encouraging the learning of new cooking and meal preparation skills, as well as locating community resources that can help stretch your dollar.
- Week 4 provides information about food safety, meal planning and ways to increase your physical activity.
It's important to remember that improving day‑to‑day nutrition doesn’t have to be complicated. Small shifts, like choosing whole foods over processed items, opting for lean meats and low‑fat dairy, or incorporating more fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains, can make a big difference. While fresh produce is always preferred, those with limited access to it should be aware that frozen is a great alternative followed by canned options packed in water or light syrup. Beyond diet, a mix of regular cardiovascular activity and strength‑building exercise is ideal in supporting your overall health.
If you have questions about what nutritional choices are best for you and your family, reach out to your health care provider or a registered dietitian nutritionist for personalized advice.
