In 2016 the 21st Century Cures Act (Cures Act) was passed by Congress. The Act is a federal mandate requiring the use of electronic heath care information nationwide. As a result, Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic updated its electronic records protocols in September last year to become one of the first federally qualified health center in the nation to be compliant with the Cures Act. Your MyChart portal now provides you with secure, immediate, electronic, access to your health care records at any time.
What information do I have access to?
While patients have always been able to access their health records, the MyChart Portal provides immediate, electronic, access to the following:
- Clinical notes from your care team
- Lab results
- Treatment plans
- Health Concerns
- Immunizations
- Medications
- Procedures
- Vital Statistics
Patients should be aware they may see some test results before their provider. These tests may contain sensitive or difficult to understand information, and they may want to consider waiting to view them until they are able to consult with their provider.
Is there anything I won’t have access to?
While the Cures Act gives you virtually complete access to your health care records, there are a few exceptions which allow your provider to block the ability to view a note in MyChart:
- Patient requests not to display sensitive information.
- Instances when sharing the note would place you or another person’s life and/or safety at risk.
- Instances when state, federal. or other privacy laws prohibit the contents of the note to be shared.
