MOBILE HEALTH UNITS

Mobile health care services.

Our Mobile Clinic Mission

The Mobile Dental Unit from Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic will
be visiting your child’s school to provide fluoride and dental sealant
treatments. The program is open to all students regardless of insurance
coverage or current dentist. This program is not meant to replace your
current dentist or regular dental check-ups. Instead, it is offered as an
additional service aimed at improving dental health in the Yakima Valley.

Participating students will be escorted to the exam area by a member
of our staff and be out of class for about 15 minutes. A visual exam will
be performed. If needed, sealant and fluoride treatments will be applied
to your child’s teeth and a special light will be used to cure the sealant.
Children will be able to eat soft foods and drink immediately after
treatment. Your child will be given a letter to bring home explaining
the procedures performed and what the dentist found during the
examination. Children will then be escorted back to class.

If this is your child’s first dental experience, it will be a fun and
relaxed way to familiarize them to dental visits.

If you would like your child to participate, please mark YES on the
consent form, fill it out, sign it, and return it to the school.

School-Based Dental Sealant Program

This program consists of two visits
to your child’s school: The first in the
fall and a follow-up in the spring.

PARTICIPANTS RECEIVE A FREE:
Toothbrush, Floss, Toothpaste, and a Water Bottle!

Fluoride

Topical fluoride application on a child’s teeth has
proved to be the most effective way to inhibit,
prevent and even reverse early cavities.
Fluoride has been found to reduce decay on tooth
surfaces between 50-70%.

Tooth Decay

Recent studies have linked poor oral health to poor
general health.
Dental decay is one of the most common chronic
illnesses among children.
An estimated 51 million school hours per year are
lost in the U.S. because of dental related illness.

Sealants

Dental sealants act as a barrier, protecting teeth
against decay causing bacteria. Sealants are
applied to chewing surfaces on the back teeth.
A sealant is a plastic material that is brushed onto
the teeth.
The plastic resin bonds into the pits and fissures of
the chewing surfaces of the back teeth.
A sealant acts as a barrier protecting enamel from
plaque and acids.
Toothbrush bristles cannot reach all the way into
the depressions and grooves to extract the food
and plaque.
Sealants protect these vulnerable areas by “sealing
out” plaque and food.
Sealants take only a couple of minutes to apply
and are painless.
